- AVENGERS AT THE NEW YORK COMIC CON
While promoting next summer's The Avengers at New YorkComic-Con, the film's producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feigerevealed to IGN that -- just as it has in 50-plus years of comic book continuity-- the superhero team's lineup would most likely change for a big screensequel.
"Absolutely. That's the fun of it -- introducing newcharacters," said Feige when asked point blank whether fans should expecta change-up to the roster. "Seeing: 'How will things change after Iron Mangoes through his next adventure? After Thor goes through his next adventure? Ifwe do another Cap adventure, how will things change? The dynamic between them?Their own worlds? So that the dynamic in Avengers 2 is actually quite differentthan it is in the first one."
Fiege has also stated that Iron Man 3 will be the first filmto kind of start building up the Avengers sequel in the same manner that thefirst Iron Man started the development of the Avengers.
It has also been confirmed that there are currently threelive-action Marvel TV shows in the works.
One of these projects is the new Hulk TV show that wereported on last month, the second is likely a live-action Cloak & DaggerTV show (which was rumored along with the new Hulk show) and the final show hasyet to be confirmed, but names like The Punisher and even the more obscureDaughters of the Dragon are being thrown around the rumor mill.
The confirmation that we’ll be getting more Marvel TV camefrom an interview that the Wall Street Journal conducted with Disney CEO RobertIger.
“[With Marvel] we’ve taken backdistribution, or bought back distribution from [Viacom Inc.'s] Paramount, forsome critical franchises. Notably, “IronMan 3” will be distributed by us, and “Avengers.” We’re developing three live-actionseries for ABC and ABC Family. You can buy Marvel products at Disney stores. And we’re working on Marvel games.”
The fact that the shows seem to be headed for ABC and ABCFamily is definitely a pivotal factor in all this. We think we could all see aPunisher TV series working well on say HBO or AMC, but ABC and ABC family(which Disney owns) don’t seem like the venues for a character mired in suchgritty, bloody violence like Frank Castle is.
Cloak and Dagger on the other hand, would be primecandidates for a TV Adaption, while also being appropriate for the ABC/ABCFamily crowd. For those who don’t know, Cloak was a young boy with a stutterwho was wandering the streets of New York, while Dagger was a privileged younggirl from the Midwest who fled to NYC to escape her neglectful stepmother. After a chance encounter, the two became friends and all was well until theywere kidnapped and experimented on with a synthetic drug, which awakened theirlatent mutant powers.
Cloak has the ability to teleport himself and others throughthe dark void, which is his body, while Dagger can take out foes via solidlight projectiles. The pair ultimately decided to use their abilities to helpother runaways, as well as fight against drug dealers and other criminalspreying on the streets.
Clark Gregg is Agent Coulson |
We on the other Hand think that Agent Coulson should get hisown TV series as this could easily continue on Marvels ever expanding universe. It could also lead to bringing special guest stars Such as Iron Man, Thor,Captain America and Nick Fury to the show while also introducing Marvelslesser-known characters to this universe.
Agent Coulson also is easily becoming one of thee mostBeloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Seeing the Short Film A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’sHammer . . . It’s easy to see that Coulson could have some pretty coolstories of his own.
Check out the Marvel Short Film…
