AVENGERS (EW Update)

  • AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!!!

Marvel Studios is featuring a first look at The Avengers(May 4, 2012) in this week's new issue of Entertainment Weekly.  As well as interviews with the cast memberswho shed some light on what’s going on with their characters in the film. Forthe full interviews you have to check out Entertainment Weekly’s magazine.

Captain America & Tony Stark
"Just because they're super heroes doesn't mean they'resuper friends," Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) told the magazine. Joss Whedon wasactually counting on a little bit of friction between cast members, sincethere's so much in the actual story. "I was like, well, if they hate eachother, I guess we can use that. But they don't."

He’s the most – guy, but a total loose cannon," saysMark Ruffalo of playing Dr. Bruce Banner/The Hulk, "No one wants to sethim off except for Iron Man... who just wants to see him pop. It’s funny, there’s a really cool dynamic between Tony Stark and Banner. Banner actuallyenjoys it, and finds it really refreshing. They’re a lot alike in a strangeway. They’re both these kind of scientists who are mavericks, kind ofrenegades. Banner, for all his mild-mannered mythology, he’s still the dude whowas testing some pretty crazy s–t on himself, so he has that rebel streak inhim.”

It is also stated that Banner wants to be a member of theteam, but that rest of the group considers him a liability. As for keeping theHulk in check, the duty seems to fall to Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, who will alsoshare a backstory with Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow.

Black Widow
“[Hawkeye is] the only one who can really take down The Hulkwith his tranq tip arrows," says Renner, adding "...The only sort ofthing I cling to is the relationship of past experiences with Scarlett’scharacter, with them both being human. ”

Black Widow & Hawkeye
Though Captain America was the hero we saw most recently onthe big screen, Chris Evans says that things have changed between his solo filmand The Avengers and that we'll see a darker take on Steve Rogers.

“It’s just about him trying to come to terms with the modernworld," Evans explains, "You’ve got to imagine, it’s enough of ashock to accept the fact that you’re in a completely different time, buteverybody you know is dead. Everybody you cared about.. [E]verybody he went tobattle with, all of his brothers in arms, they’re all dead. He’s just lonely. Ithink in the beginning it’s a fish out of water scene, and it’s tough. It’s atough pill for him to swallow."

Nick Fury
Though the team is going head-to-head with Tom Hiddleston'sLoki, Chris Hemsworth reveals that his Thor won't necessarily be the most atodds with his half-brother.

“I think [Thor's] motivation is much more of a personalone," he says, "in the sense that it’s his brother that is stirringthings up. Whereas everyone else, it’s some bad guy who they’ve gotta takedown. It’s a different approach for me, or for Thor... I’ve been frustratedwith my brothers at times, or family, but I’m the only one who is allowed to beangry at them. There’s a bit of that.”
