New Tomb Raider

ComingSoon.net had a chance to sit down with producer GrahamKing, who has reteamed with Martin Scorsese for Hugo, a magical fantasy basedon Brian Selznick's "The Invention of Hugo Cabret."

They then asked him about his decision to do a Tomb Raiderfilm, seeing the reaction from the 2 previous installments that had AngelinaJolie wasn’t that particularly well received by the general audience andcritics alike.

Hethe shed some light on what he is planning for the newfranchise, which is definitely more along the lines of Casino Royale or BatmanBegins:

"Listen, the box office, they weren't disasters but Ifind it interesting that the story that we're telling is really the storybefore she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece. It does have a lot ofreally great characters, but it's a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me,it's something very different. I've not really done a movie like that before,but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we're going to give ita shot."

Considering how two of the best studio action movies thisyear, Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class and Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planetof the Apes, took a similar approach, it certainly seems like a smart way togo, and here's hoping King is able to find the right director andever-important actress soon to get this thing rolling forward.
