  • KITE

With his latest film Shark Night 3D currently playing inU.S. cinemas, director David R. Ellis has already announced his next project, alive-action remake of Japanese anime hit Kite.

According to Screen Daily, the film will follow a youngwoman "living in a failed state where the corrupt security forces profitfrom the trafficking of young women. When her policeman father is slain by acorrupt colleague, she sets out to track down his murderer with his ex-partner- unaware that he is the man who had her father killed."

The 1998 original - written and directed by Yasuomi Umetsu -was banned in some countries for violence and sexual content, so it will beinteresting to see how much hardcore action will be retained for the remake.

Distant Horizon is overseeing the project, with Ellis saying"I am a big fan of Yasuomi Umetsu and honored to bring the amazing worldof Kite to the big screen."

Casting is currently underway, with principal photographyset to start in January 2012.
