FAST SIX & SEVEN (Talk)

  • FAST SIX & SEVEN

During a photo session with the Hollywood Reporter, VinDiesel appears to have confirmed that a seventh Fast & Furious is alreadyin the works. Shooting hasn’t begun with Six, but the story seems so big thatthey will have to split it into 2 films.

The two films are being written simultaneously, according toVin, although there's no indication of whether they'll be shootingback-to-back. “With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so manycharacters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figureout what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enoughspace,” Vin explains.

“We have to pay off this story, we have to service all ofthese character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it justwent beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in onedamn movie!’"

With that lovely post credits scene in Fast Five, it seemsthat the franchise will welcome back Michelle Rodriguez and Eva Mendes. Sothat, along with the presumable return of Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, TyreseGibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot and, we certainly hope,Elsa Pataky and Dwayne Johnson, certainly indicates a lot of story to spreadaround. There is also the case of trying to fit Jason Statham, if the rumoursare true, and he does sign on, then his character would also demand significantscreen time.

It's not all about the cars though, Paul Walker believes;it's really about the themes of brotherhood and family. "If the action wasall it was, it would have fallen off a long time ago," Walker says.

Filming on Fast & Furious 6 gets going next year (afterDiesel gets finished with Riddick 3), with Justin Lin at the helm, as he has beensince Tokyo Drift. The release date is already set for May, 2013.
