Tom Cruise has agreed to star in the Doug Liman-directed AllYou Need Is Kill at Warner Bros. Pictures, reports Variety.

 The film will be based on the Japanese novel by HiroshiSakurazaka . It is described as follows:

All You Need Is Kill

“There's one thing worse than dying. It's coming back to doit again and again... When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one ofmany raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill.Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning tofight and die again and again. On the 158th iteration though, he sees somethingdifferent, something out of place: the female soldier known as the B*tch ofWar. Is the B*tch the key to Keiji's escape, or to his final death?”

The trade adds that a deal is not officially signed yet,though the script has been rewritten to fit Cruise's age. Dante Harper wrotethe script and Jody Harold did a rewrite.

Cruise is currently shooting Christopher McQuarrie's OneShot and will follow that with Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion. He's expected tofilm All You Need Is Kill after that project in late 2012.
